How will you end off your 2017?

So once again we have reached that time where everybody starts to wonder where did the year go? Yup, we are fast approaching the end of 2017 and there is still a lot to do before you can officially sign off and enjoy your holidays. One thing that should be pretty high on that list is your year-end work function. Maybe your workplace doesn’t have a year-end function, that’s ok too because the festive season is still right around the corner and you know you are going to be heading out.

With the ‘silly’ season however, comes the dreaded travel traffic. Hordes of people leaving the cities for tourist destinations across the country. This means massive traffic jams, reckless and fatigued drivers. The roads have become more and more precarious as the years have gone by. So when you do inevitably head off to wherever you may be going, please keep a few things in mind:

The police, roadblocks and the new demerit system

As we all know, the road authorities are out in full force as we approach the season of festivities. Countless road blocks will be setup to catch out those drivers with expired license disks, drivers licenses or a multitude of other possible offences. We will also have a new controversial demerit system coming into to effect relatively soon. Whether or not it will be this year or next year remains to be seen, but by the sounds of it, it is on its way. The demerit system will essentially accumulate points on your driver’s license for minor to severe traffic infringements. The more demerits you have, the more likely you are to lose your license. To get it back, you will need to attend a rehabilitation course. Read more about the demerit system here.

Staying or going away for the holidays

Whether you choose to stay home for the holidays or go away, you will be dealing with festive traffic and the sooner you get to your destination the better right? Not quite. What is better, is having someone drive you to your destination, so the only worry on your mind is how much fun you will be having. After all, the holiday is not only about the destination, the road trip is an integral part of the adventure.  Going away with the family? Book a charter. Staying home for the holidays but going out with friends? Book a chauffeur drive. Arranging the year end function? Book a bus with Snappy for peace of mind knowing that your employees, family and friends will be able to enjoy themselves without the worry of safety. Why drive if you don’t need to?

Legal drinking limit

Ever heard someone say “I’ll just have one drink.” This usually does not end up being the case, unless you have the constitution of a Buddhist monk and you do stick to just one. Take a look at this directly from the SAPS website. “Your blood may not have an alcohol content of more than 0.05%. If you have more than 350ml of beer, OR if you have more than a single tot of brandy or other spirit, you may already be over the limit.” So, if you are going out, you best be drinking fruit juice and having a decent meal or plan on being at your destination until you sober up. Sounds like fun, right? Snappy can help you get home safely every time. Avoiding any issues at roadblocks with the police, no nights in jail and absolutely best of all, no criminal record. Also remember that it is not only your life you hold in the balance if you decide to drive drunk. Below is a little visual representation of how much an average person can drink before they are over the legal limit.

How far is your destination?

Whether you are driving to Cape Town or you favorite pub, the roads are not the safest place to be these holidays. One of the main killers on the road is fatigue. You might not even realize how tired you can get on a long journey, so if you are planning on this, please remember to take regular breaks. Have another driver with you so you can drive in shifts. If you are traveling alone get your rest. Fatigue is not the only challenge you will face on the road. You should make sure that you always have your license, 100% road worthy car and that you are totally focused on the road.

Now you may think the roads are a like a warzone. Unfortunately, it’s something that has become part of the festive season and has only gotten worse with each passing year. The only thing we can do, and the only way we can change this, is by being responsible for ourselves.

For the times that no one wants to be the designated driver, or you just want everyone, including yourself, to have more fun and relaxing journey, there’s Snappy. We know that we are not your only choice for traveling safely, but here are a few reasons why we should be your first choice.
